Hiking

Throughout its 2,700 acres of property, Rancho Santana boasts miles and miles of trails, perfect for those who love to take a hike or nature walk. Simply grab atrail map and start exploring the terrain, or you can request one of our guides to accompany you, explaining local flora and fauna as you go.

All of our trails offer breathtaking views of the tropical dry forest with some jaw-dropping coastline and ocean vistas. There are trails for beginners or all level of hardcore hikers. But we highly recommend the nature hike to Playa Escondida, which ends at the wild and remote beach, perfect for a celebratory swim or to check out the turtle sanctuary there. Or take a more leisurely hike along the Playa Los Perros loop, deep in the Nicaraguan jungle and tropical dry forest, offering plenty of opportunities to pause and enjoy the nature.

We also recommend to try a night hike. If you thought a hike during the daytime was enjoyable, true nature enthusiasts will jump at the chance to go for a night hike. The Nicaraguan jungle truly come alive at night, and you’ll garner a completely different experience by immersing yourself in its midst with only the moonlight (and flashlights) to illuminate your journey. Just like our day hikes, our guides will point out all of the animals, plants, and other things that go bump in the night along the way. It’s also completely safe, very fun, and educational for every age or level of adventure, so bring the whole family for a night hike!

Duration: 1 – 2.5 hours depending on the hike you choose and your pace.
Bring: A bottle of water, athletic sneakers, your camera, and your curiosity.

“We spent a few hours each day hiking on the extensive trails that wind throughout the property (felt 100% safe- more so than in many place I have recently visited)” Abby M
