We were pleased to host the Humphreys family for an extended stay, during which they experienced authentic adventures in a truly unique destination. The creative force behind @raisingmavericks — content creator, mom, and long-time guest at The Ranch — teamed up with us to live and share unforgettable summer moments.

“Six years ago, we launched our Instagram page @raisingmavericks and blog to share our family’s journey of homeschooling, traveling, and adventuring in the hopes of encouraging other families to embrace a lifestyle that feels right for them. After all, sometimes the road less traveled leads to the most beautiful places. 

One of those beautiful places for us is Rancho Santana. In 2024, our first international trip took us from Maryland to Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where we instantly fell in love. 

Rancho Santana quickly became one of our family’s favorite places we have ever visited. With its abundant nature, five gorgeous beaches, delicious farm-to-table food, strong dedication to sustainability, commitment to uplifting the local community, and, of course, the warmest, most welcoming people, it felt like home as soon as we set foot on The Ranch. 

This summer, we’re thrilled to return to Rancho Santana for five unforgettable weeks — living simply, rising with the sun, enjoying meals from the land beneath our feet, adventuring outdoors, and connecting more deeply with each other and the world around us. 

More than just a getaway, this feels like an invitation to slow down, reconnect with what matters most, and create lasting memories while living in a place that reflects our values.”

The Humphreys Family’s 5-Day Summer Adventure at Rancho Santana

Day 1 – Arrival & Beachside Welcome

  • Private airport transfer to Rancho Santana
  • Check-in and settle into your accommodations
  • Family time at the Sand Dollar Pool
  • Sunset walk along Playa Santana
  • Dinner at La Finca y El Mar (recommended dish: grilled octopus)

Day 2 – Smoothie Bowls & Five Beaches

  • Breakfast at La Finca y El Mar (try the Escondida Smoothie Bowl)
  • Cinco Playas Tour – explore five of Rancho Santana’s most scenic beaches
  • Lunch at La Finca y El Mar (Club Sandwich is a favorite)
  • Afternoon at the Sand Dollar Pool & Pool Bar – play bocce or relax with a cocktail
  • Early evening community e-bike ride through the jungle trails
  • Casual dinner at La Taqueria

Day 3 – Sandboarding & Coastal Treks

Day 4 – Cultural Day in Granada

Day 5 – Surf & Scout

Day 6 – Birds, Beaches & Horseback Rides

  • Quiet afternoon at Playa Escondida, Rancho’s “hidden beach”
  • Sunset horseback ride along the beach

We are the family behind Raising Mavericks (Ron, Alison, Teagen, Willow, Weston, and Stone.) — six adventurers who have left behind the traditional 9-to-5 lifestyle to embrace travel, intentional living, and hands-on learning. By running our own businesses and homeschooling our four kids, we’ve created the freedom to explore the world together, spend more time in nature, and prioritize connection over convention. Our mission is to raise mavericks — confident, creative free-thinkers who are unafraid to forge their own paths. 

We believe that learning occurs everywhere — on mountain trails, by the ocean, in towns, and through meaningful connections — not just in designated classrooms at specific times. Whether we’re hiking, kayaking, fishing, or chasing sunsets, nature is where we feel most alive and connected.
